No natural phenomenon provides a rarer chance to study the secrets of the animal world than a total solar eclipse. This was recently demonstrated by researchers investigating how a total solar eclipse might affect the soundscape of Midwestern United States prairie communities (including the Larry R. Yoder Prairie Learning Laboratory. Their objective was to discover how soundscapes — combinations of natural and artificial sounds that shape an environment — are influenced by ambient light, as light level helps cue annual biological events such as sexual reproduction and migration.

New federal numbers place 91Ӱ�� among the best in the nation for research. 91Ӱ�� climbed to 12th place nationally among all universities for total research expenditures. The university also strengthened its standing in industry-sponsored research, rising to 6th nationally and underscoring its growing impact as a leader in discovery, innovation and academic excellence.

91Ӱ�� at Marion welcomed new staff member Kiersten Spiegel to campus Monday, January 5, 2026.  Spiegel will coordinate testing services for students receiving accommodations through the Office for Disability Services.
